"Just Go And Do It",  - Look Out For My Cat.

I picked up a fare late one night and he told me to take him to Randolph. This would be around a twelve or thirteen dollar fare at the time. ‘Watch out for my cat,’ he says, ‘the cat will be waiting for me’. He then gives me $20 and told me to get him home safely. I was driving along the route that I would always go in order to get to that destination and I was about to bear right at a junction when he says ‘stay left’.

This meant that I was going away from the direction that I would normally go, but sure maybe, he knew a shorter way. I kept going and I had not gone too far when he says, ‘you are going the wrong way’. I said that ‘this is the way you wanted me to go’. He said, ‘Sorry, I know I did’ and he gives me another $20. ‘Just get me home to my cat’ he said. I turned back and went the way I should have gone in the first place.

At this stage, I had got $40 which was much more than the fare would ever be. He told me that he was a Herrin choker. ‘Did you ever hear that before?’ he asked, ‘Yes, I did’ I replied. ‘I am from Canada’, he says and he gave me another $20. The total now was $60 which was far too much and we even haven’t reached the destination yet.

He says ‘look out for my cat, it will be waiting for me’. I arrived and sure enough, the cat was sitting there waiting for the Herrin choker.

He asked me how much did he owe me and I told him that he didn’t owe me anything. Then he says ‘take this’. Another $14 was handed over and that would be probably been the right amount to start with!.

He then says ‘I would give you more, if I had more but that’s all I have on me now’. I said, ‘No, you have given me more than enough’. ‘But I would like to give you more, just wait there for a moment’. Now it was decision time for me, I had already got $74 for my effort and in my mind I was thinking ‘what was he going to come out with, maybe a gun’.

I waited for a little while longer and sure enough, he came back out and gave me another $100 and says, ‘that’s for getting me home to my cat’.

I wish everybody loved their naughty cat as much!
